Cycle Right Schools
An exciting new programme, Cycle Right, is being implemented in primary schools nationwide!
Cycle Right complements the SPHE and PE primary school curriculums providing enthusiastic and motivating lessons inclusive of all children in 5th and 6th class. It also meets the success criteria needed to achieve the Active Schools Flag. Click HERE for more information. This is an 8 hour course which will be delivered over a period of 6 weeks in 1 hour 20 minute sessions. Cycle Right costs only €20 per child (Normally €55 but is heavily subsidised by The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, with the Road Safety Authority.)
Cycle Right is the national standard for cycle training. It provides practical cycle safety and skills training to promote competent and confident cyclists. All our staff are Garda vetted, have up to date child protection certificates and are registered with Cycling Ireland. The children will learn essential road safety and competency skills such as bike handling, correct use of helmets, negotiating roundabouts, traffic lights, traffic signage, travelling at appropriate speeds for the road surfaces and conditions, moving between major and minor roads, meeting pedestrians/animals/vehicles,etc. The Cycle Right programme involves
- 2 hours classroom based theory sessions
- 4 hours school yard road simulation sessions
- 2 hours of on road cycling sessions in a designated area eg: a local housing estate or quiet country road close to the school. The on road session will be a ratio of 10 children to 2 qualified Cycle Right registered instructors.
Cycle Right offers a programme uniquely suited to the Irish environment, taking account of rural, suburban and urban conditions that are regularly encountered in close proximity. The children will be empowered to move safely as a cyclist in complex, changing road environments in their locality.
We are always eager to discuss this programme further if you have any questions just give us a call on 087 6609534 or email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
